Washington & Oregon College Tour
GEAR UP brought 40 students across Hilo High School, Leilehua High School, and Waipahu High School to Washington and Oregon on a week-long trip to visit 10 different colleges.
“I've had a burning (not so obvious) passion to represent Hawaii and its people through leadership, experience, and service. I hope to always give back to where I come from and make sure I am serving my people and those who helped me along the way.”
- Caleb Valdriz
"Visiting colleges in person most definitely changes the lenses in which colleges are perceived. While a website can answer the questions of prospective students, to breathe a college's air truly is the best way to approach a process that will dictate the way you will be living for the next stage of your life.”
- Cheydon Agos
“Going to a mainland school is definitely going to be a culture shock and is going to take a lot of adjustment and getting used to. “
- Hailey Fleming
“Initially, I was set on attending the University of Hawai’i at Manoa (UHM) due to it being close to home and cost friendly. However, as I dove deeper into college exploration (the trip) I began to realize that my aspirations reached far beyond my home state.”
- Carl Calpito
